Protecting the Indian River Lagoon

One of Florida’s most important and beautiful waterways is the Indian River Lagoon. Spanning across 7 counties on Florida’s east coast, and comprised of three connected estuaries, the IRL is a bustling and biodiverse ecosystem. To protect it, the communities of Florida need to come together and commit to keeping their waterways clean and thriving. 

The City of Palm Bay is doing its part with its own revitalization project, working to enhance its stormwater infrastructure and keep the Indian River Lagoon healthy. EcoSense is happy to report the installation of four new DeNitra Vault style baffle boxes as part of Palm Bay’s improvements. The Vaults are strategically located to benefit key stormwater basins, to trap harmful waste, run-off sediment and contaminants before the water can flow back into the Lagoon.

The new DeNitra Vaults can be found along Kirkland, Riverview, Florin, and Bay Blvd. The Florin installation is a huge 10’ x 20’, while the other three are 5’ x 11’. The large baffleboxes will capture solid waste and floatables, while allowing water to pass through a powerful and efficient upflow style filter. All four DeNitra Vaults have EcoSense’s top of the line filtration media, NutriGone™ – S+603. The baffle boxes will be able to filter intense flows thanks to the improved permeability of NutriGone™ – S+603, while dramatically reducing Total Phosphorus, Total Nitrogen, and Total Suspended Solids. The Vaults will only need occasional maintenance, and are easily cleaned. EcoSense is confident that our work with the community will help protect the invaluable Indian River Lagoon.
