Cleaning Up Mirror Lake MI
August 20, 2026
The beautiful Mirror Lake in Jerome, Michigan is a place for boating in the summer and ice fishing in the winter. However, like with many lakes, there is a constant battle with excess nutrients feeding invasive plants and causing harmful algae blooms.
Doug Collins, a dedicated home-owner and the committee chair of the Mirror Lake Association, saw and understood what was happening to Mirror Lake, and wanted to restore it. He decided to reach out to us at EcoSense International.
At EcoSense, we proudly produce quality, research-backed, cost-effective, custom solutions to remove unwanted bio-nutrients, heavy metals, emerging contaminants, and suspended solids. When Doug contacted us, we were more than happy to work with him to help keep Mirror Lake clean, safe, and enjoyable for all its residents.
After discussing the issues, as well as using data Doug had collected, our approach to Mirror Lake was to use our compact 2’ by 8” filter socks filled with the highly-effective NutriGone™ -C media. Simply attaching these socks under boat docks, boat lifts, and other locations with high water movement will provide easy and efficient filtration for clearer and cleaner water all year long.
Our products show their effectiveness through routine testing of phosphorus levels every Spring and Fall, as well as biweekly testing of water clarity using Secchi discs during the summer.
“No lake needs to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars to help reduce nutrient levels and increase water clarity,” Doug says, “That is where EcoSense is helping us. They provide a highly cost-effective way for us to bring down the nutrient levels.”
